CORPORATE ESPIONAGE: Most companies do not recognize they have a corporate espionage problem until an average of 18 months after the incident. 72% of businesses that have not taken measures to manage corporate espionge risk and suffer a loss will go out of business within 2 years. CORPORATE SECURITY: Less than 5% of annual Top 1000 North American Corporate budgets will be spent on security. Despite the significance of their role in risk management, Security Guards are the lowest paid in relation to their responsibility within a corporation. PRIVACY: 68% of North American Companies secretly review employees' computer files, e-mail, voice mail and record telephone calls. Every 9 seconds in Corporate North America someone gains unauthorized access to a classified document. If you live or work in downtown Montreal, Toronto or Ottawa you will be recorded on security video an average of 18 times per day by 7 different surveillance systems. A cellular telephone can be used to track the movements of an individual within a 4 block radius. 37% of all telephone taps are conducted by law enforcement. Identity Theft is the number one technology based crime committed against individuals, credit fraud is the second. COMPUTER SECURITY: 88% of all Trojan Viruses are designed to steal financial and personal identification information from computer users. Over 8,000 computer viruses are currently active worldwide with an average of 5 new ones introduced each day. The majority of computer viruses are spread as attachments to e-mails. 36% of computer security breaches were the result of technical vulnerabilities while human vulnerabilities were attributed to the remaining 64%. For every minute of unauthorized computer access, it will take an average of 2 hours investigation time. The average computer security breach lasts 27 minutes. It costs an average of $850.00 per hour to investigate a computer security breach. There are over 9,000 recognized computer software security holes worldwide, with an average of 7 new vulnerabilities uncovered each day. Only 72% of registered software users take advantage of free patches and upgrades to correct security vulnerabilities. Computer Crackers attempt to infiltrate North American military computer systems an average of 180,000 times per year. Forensic Scientist / Technology Crime & Forensic Intelligence Specialist


Dr. Robert Ing became an American Police Hall of Fame award recipient in 2001 and is a recognized authority on technical security and investigation. Dr. Ing has given workshops and lectured extensively on forensic intelligence issues under the auspices of the federal governments of the United States and Canada. As a technology crime and forensic intelligence specialist he has, and continues to make frequent appearances on ABC, CBC, CBS, CNN, CTV, NBC, PBS and other major television news and talk networks. He has been the host of several documentaries for public broadcast and host of Channel 81's, "Technology Crime with Dr. Robert Ing," a weekly one hour technology crime news and information program. In 2005 and 2006, Dr. Ing appeared as a guest on North American broadcast news and talk networks at an average of one segment every 10 days.

He developed an electronic counter-surveillance training program for intelligence personnel in hostile environments (1990), authored one of the first white papers alerting the intelligence community to the national security risk of undetectable “backstop” instructive code computer viruses (1995), and developed a special anti-terrorism training program that over the years has been offered as the basis of a workshop for federal law enforcement personnel (1998). As a result of the potential lives saved due to these innovative initiatives, Dr. Ing was nominated for and received an American Police Hall of Fame award. In 2004 – 2005 he lobbied the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, armed with a petition of over 5 million signatories in order to convince these governments to utilize the technological resources of each country’s intelligence services as an investigative aid in the apprehension of international child pornographers; this proposal was known as the “Ing Initiative.” In 2007, Dr. Ing conceptually created, founded and sponsored "The Blessed Black Angels Initiative," an international urban community project whose mission is the empowerment of Black Women of all ages through the provision of transitional scholarships and business grants.

He has been recognized by both the public and his peers for his forensic science activities in his roles as investigator, instructor and international security advisor in the areas of espionage risk management, identity theft, Internet security, privacy, computer security and Internet crime. Some of the many awards he has received include the Kaufman Humanitarian Award in 1977, Emergency Services Medal in 1984, the Norris R. Browne Memorial Award in 1995, the Venerable Order of Michael in 2001 and the Warrior’s Medal in 2005. Dr. Ing is an advisory board member of Child Predator Busters, was appointed an Honorary Member in 2006 of Guardian Angels Canada; a volunteer safety patrol organization, and is an Active Chapter Leader with this organization.

Born in East York, Canada, he attended the prestigious Cambridge Academy and later the North American Institute of Police Science and Alabama School of Fingerprinting; institutions that have been associated with some of North America’s most notable investigators. He earned his associate’s degree in forensic science from Parker-Clinton College in 1973, his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology from LaSalle University in 1991; his master's from LaSalle University in 1992; and his Doctor of Science degree from Knightsbridge University in 1994. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Police Science, a Certified Protection Officer, appointed an Adjunct Professor at LaSalle University in 1992 and has been awarded honorary doctorates from the Finsbury Park Institute in 1995 and Augsburg University in 1996.
