Forensic Intelligence deals with the acquisition, analysis and protection of information and evidence that is the result of a criminal act, and the identification of potential crime risks.

Within Forensic Intelligence are the functions of Counter-Terrorism, Espionage and Criminal Risk Management, which involves the acquisition and analysis of intelligence data in order to provide recommendations on reducing terrorist, espionage and criminal threat levels.

Over 8,000 computer viruses are currently active worldwide with an average of 5 new ones introduced each day. The majority of computer viruses are spread as attachments to e-mails. 36% of computer security breaches were the result of technical vulnerabilities while human vulnerabilities were attributed to the remaining 64%. For every minute of unauthorized computer access, it will take an average of 2 hours investigation time. The average computer security breach lasts 27 minutes. It costs an average of $850.00 per hour to investigate a computer security breach. There are over 9,000 recognized computer software security holes worldwide, with an average of 7 new vulnerabilities uncovered each day. Only 72% of registered software users take advantage of free patches and upgrades to correct security vulnerabilities. Computer Crackers attempt to infiltrate North American military computer systems an average of 180,000 times per year.
